Abstract

Different varieties of turnip (Brassica rapa L) do not differ much among themselves in meiotic chromosome abnormalities. Meiosis is more balanced in F1 hybrids than their parents. There is considerable intervarietal variation in pollen viability. The hybrids have better poliens than their parents which may be attributed to heterosis. There is a negative correlation between meiotic chromosome abnormalities and pollen viability in turnip.
